She said that last year she used medicare parts A and B too much and that the excess was charged to her social security and taxed. My mom contends that if she uses medicare too much she'll be taxed on the excess benefits, is this true?
Not true at all
She may be confused by her social security payment amount for 2007, because there were several changes:
-- the Medicare premiums increased, but that was for everyone, with no connection to individual use
-- although there was a cost of living increase in Social Security payments as usual, a new law last year also took a cut out of the payments for those with higher incomes -- again, this had no connection to Medicare use
Either of those could have confused her and made it seem as if she was being taxed for using Medicare too much.
no that is not true better yet for prescriptions after so much she will start getting them free no co pay she has no worries tc gl
That sounds strange. Ask a tax professional.
