hi i am a 53yr old male and a bit concerned about an mri scan I have to have for my knee - it's the first time I have had an mri scan - and would like to know what it is like ? I have had first hand info it's like going through a noisy tunnel - its the unknown thats a bit scary (Bit like building your first flat pack wardrobe - the next one is so easy!)My first mri scan?
You are laid on a table that slides into a large cylinder. Due to the large magnet that rotates it is loud. You will hear the techs talking to you during the procedure to make sure you are doing fine. If at any time you have a panic attack or feel uncomfortable you can tell them. You will also feel small puffs of air. The procedure can take anywhere from twenty minutes to forty five.
If you are claustrophobic you can ask for a mild sedative. The other option is an open MRI, which many places have now. The test is not painful.
I wish you much luck with your MRI and that the results of your test is what you want to hear.
An MRI scan is done in a long cylindrical tube and it can get quite noisy. Also if you are claustrophobic, ask if you can have some sedation before hand. Other than that, there is nothing to worry about.
i have had three and they are not bad AT ALL! you are put into this very large dome tube sort of thing. you hear noises when the scan is going on. what i did was look up pictures on the internet.
well right it is noisy....but no it's not scary...unless you are claustrophobic of course...
there is no harmful rays(unlike CT) so go ahead and get as healthy as possible...
